FAQ

What is chiropractic?

According to the World Health Organization, chiropractic is a health care profession focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractic care utilizes techniques, known as adjustments or manipulations, to remove postural imbalances and structural misalignments that can occur in the body. The chiropractors at Faircloth Chiropractic Clinic are skilled in a variety of adjustment techniques, including Diversified, Gonstead, Upper Cervical, Activator, Distraction, etc.

Are chiropractors doctors?

Yes. Chiropractors are licensed as primary-contact, portal of entry providers in all 50 states and are trained to assess, differentially diagnose, and treat a variety of health conditions, specifically those related to the neuromusculoskeletal system.

In Louisiana, chiropractors must have a Bachelors Degree with prerequisites in anatomy, physiology, chemistry, etc. prior to attending chiropractic school. The Doctor of Chiropractic program is a 4-year program that includes a clinical internship. In order to receive licensure, one must also pass 5 National Board exams and a state jurisprudence exam.

Is chiropractic effective?

Chiropractic adjustments are an effective care option for acute, subacute, and chronic neck and back pain, as well as headaches and migraines. These are the most common conditions treated by chiropractors. Additionally, chiropractic care is known to help with a variety of conditions, including sciatica, neuropathy, degenerative joint disease, arthritis, arm/leg pain, etc.

Is chiropractic safe?

Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest nondrug, noninvasive forms of health care available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Many patients feel immediate relief following chiropractic treatment, but some may experience mild soreness, just as they do after some forms of exercise.

Doctors of chiropractic are well trained professionals who provide patients with safe, effective care for a variety of common conditions. Their extensive education prepares them to identify patients who have special risk factors and to ensure those patients receive the most appropriate care, even if that requires referral. At Faircloth Chiropractic Clinic, we understand that everyone’s body is different and responds differently to treatments. For this reason, we tailor a specific plan to meet your needs, goals, and unique medical and physical condition.

What can I expect from my first visit to the chiropractor?

On the day of your appointment, try to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early in order to complete all necessary paperwork. After paperwork is complete, you will be taken to an examination room where the chiropractor will take an extensive history of your health condition. Next, the chiropractor will perform a series of neurological and physical tests, including range of motion, muscle strength, reflexes, orthopedic exams, etc. If necessary, the chiropractor may take x-rays. The chiropractor will walk you through your x-ray findings, then develop a treatment plan specifically for you.

We are preferred providers with numerous insurance plans. It is important that you are able to receive the treatment you need and want.
